The Fluvanna County Chamber of Commerce got some face time with state representatives this week.

"Since they're still in assembly, what it does for us is let us have a one-on-one conversation with them and express our concerns from Fluco," said Robert Mayfield, chamber president.

It's a busy time of year in Richmond, but between pushing bills, Rob Bell, Watkins Abbot, and Senator Frank Ruff stopped for dinner with Fluvanna business people.

"We elect them and I think it's great that they want to see this concern, so that they can help us and make changes that will benefit us not only as non-profit groups, but businesses that may be interested in coming to Fluco," said Chamber member Tammy Griggs.

New businesses bring the conversation to tax dollars.

“Will there be a fee, standard fee when someone comes into the county to build homes? Homes affect the tax base; it affects transportation, sewer and water, and I think that was the big concern that we had," said Mayfield.

The delegates and senator didn't have any direct answers, but told the chamber their concerns, particularly for the classroom, are important.
"Education in Fluvanna County is where we get the tax base from. How much does the state provide for education in Fluco? How much are our taxes going to go up? In Fluco, they're proposing a new high school. How much of that comes from state? How much comes from Fluco," asked Mayfield.

Chamber members make the trek to Richmond every February.
