A 22-year-old Palmyra woman was killed this morning when her car careened off the road, struck several trees and rolled over on Route 620 in Fluvanna County.
Virginia State Police identified the woman as Meghan Bryenn Smith, of Old Ridge Lane in Palmyra. Troopers said she was westbound on Route 620 at about 6:40 a.m. in a 1996 Honda Civic when the car went off the right side of the road. Smith, who was not wearing a seatbelt and was not ejected from the car, died at the scene.
The car was seriously damaged and firefighters had to extricate Smith from the vehicle, officials said.
Trooper M.T. Billingslea, who investigated the wreck, indicated that speed and wet roads were factors in the crash.
