Fund raising activities
The Fluvanna County Public Library Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Library are undertaking a fundraising campaign to “Finish & Furnish” the new library building.
The county decided to build the new building to meet the growing demand for library services. In response to that decision, the Library Board, mindful of Fluvanna’s many capital improvements projects and limited tax revenues, pledged to raise funds to complete the building’s interior.
The proposed new library facility is the result of many years of volunteer effort and community support. The Library Board and the Friends of the Library are counting on community support to help furnish the building with the books and equipment that will create a public library that citizens can be proud of.
It is hoped that the campaign will yield $400,000, of which half would be earmarked for furniture, computers and equipment, and the remainder for books, audiovisual materials and electronic resources.
The new libarary will encompass triple the space, allowing the facility to shelve at least two books per capita. At present, the collection provides 1.8 items per capita. The library currently contains four public access computers that are used by over 600 patrons a month. The new library will offer 15 computers for publicv use.
Donations can be made to Fluvanna County Library Building Fund, P.O. Box 548, Fork Union, VA 23055.
