It has been a long time and a lot of money in the making, but now, construction on a new library in Fluvanna County is officially underway.
It does not look like much now, but thanks to this Monday afternoon's groundbreaking, that is soon going to change at Pleasant Grove. The library board and county supervisors grabbed their shovels and got things started with a ceremonial dig in the dirt.
The new library will dwarf the current one, tripling in size to 17,000 square feet. The new library will have 20 public access computers, a children's room with computers, space for story hour, quiet study rooms, and a meeting room with seating for 100. Not to mention a parking lot with room for 100 cars.
The design for the building comes thanks to Reynolds Architects out of Blacksburg at a cost of nearly $3 million. Construction is expected to be complete in the fall of next year.
